A Man Called Ove

1hr 56min | PG-13 | 2015

Depression and grieving are not typically subjects of comedy but Sweden’s submission for the 89th Academy Awards tackles these heavy issues with a light-touch. Ove, an irascible retiree and widower, who takes his ire out on his neighbors, is ready to give up on life due to his wife’s death, until an intrusive new neighbor intercedes.

Presented by Steven DeRosa

White Chicks

1hr 49min | PG-13 | 2004

When two black FBI agents botch a high profile drug bust, they are assigned to protect a pair of wealthy white sisters from high-profile kidnappers. Upon suffering minor facial injuries, the sisters decide to lay low, forcing the FBI agents to pose as the girls in order to catch the kidnappers. While much of the film’s humor relies upon slapstick, White Chicks is also a satirical commentary on the power dynamics of race, class, and gender roles.
