The winning screenplays in Mercy College’s first-ever student screenwriting competition represent a variety of genres and a very talented group of writers.
Reginald Agossa, ’21, a Media Studies major in the Film/Culture concentration, received the top prize for The Incredibly Overwhelmingly Taxing Love Life of a 20 Something Superhero, a short comedy script with the premise that “Being a superhero can be tough stuff—saving babies, escaping rabid fans, new villains popping up. However, dealing with dating can be much tougher.”
The two runners-up: Tommie Cruz, ’22, a Media Studies major in the Radio and Television Production concentration, received a prize for Pillside Pharmacy, a pilot screenplay for an animated series with the premise “After hiring an unusual stranger on a whim, the Pillside Pharmacy team learn just what they’ve gotten into and take one HELL of a trip.” And Jenny Fabrizio, ’23, also a Media Studies major in the Radio and Television Production concentration, received a prize for 12 Days Out, a pilot screenplay for a dramatic series with the premise “Diana, a young single mother, tries to solve the mystery behind the unexplained happenings affecting her one-year-old son and other children within the community.”
